| Today the governing body still exists and is still chaired by a member of the Sandys family. The governors operate the school as a museum and as a venue for hire. They also manage the remaining estate of the school to raise funds for the young people of Hawkshead to assist with their further education or with their entry into a business, profession or trade. |

| The museum operates a guided tour which brings the School to life. You can feel the atmosphere and almost believe you are in a working schoolroom of 200 years ago. Admission is £2 with discounts for groups of over 12 people. |

| Application for grants can be made by any young person resident in the Ancient Parish of Hawkshead (which includes Satterthwaite) in writing to the Clerk to the Governors, Hawkshead Grammar School Foundation, Esthwaite Cottage, Hawkshead, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 0QF. |
